AN ANCIENT AYURVEDIC AND CHINESE MEDICINE REMEDY
Pearl powder is a supplement and skincare ingredient, made from ground freshwater pearls. And yes, I know it may sound like some ridiculously elitist superfood trend exported from LA đ
However, pearl powder traces its roots to ancient Ayurvedic and Chinese Medicine, where it was used both internally and topically.
Ayurveda, the indigenous healing modality in India, refers to pearl powder as Mukta Pishti. Ayurveda uses pearl powder to âcoolâ the digestive system in cases of excess heat, such as inflammation or bleeding. It is also used to support eyesight, digestion, and provide balance to those with fiery or airy constitutions (âdoshasâ) (1).
The history of pearl powder in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) dates back over 2,000 years. TCM prescribes pearl powder (called zhen zhu) to support nervous system balance and mental health. Itâs also widely used in Asia for face creams and powders.
The only Empress of China (625 AD) used pearl powder both internally and externally to maintain a youthful complexion. Cleopatra also used pearl powder to maintain her legendary beauty. She ingested it in beverages and dissolved it into her bathwater.
Both Ayurvedic and Chinese Medicine consider pearl powder an aphrodisiac, or âlove potion.â This makes sense, given its vitality-supporting properties and balancing effects on the nervous system.
I first started experimenting with pearl powder for skincare 9 years ago. I wrote this article on adding pearl powder to face cream, and using it as a replacement for face powder.
At that time, I didnât supplement with it internally since I was using so many other supplements. The years passed and I played guinea pig with other products and protocols, forgetting about pearl powder.
Recently, pearl powder came back into my awareness, with significant insistence. I re-incorporated it into my skincare routine and started supplementing with it, as well. Pearl powder is now a daily staple for me, and I wonât be forgetting about it again!
BENEFITS OF PEARL POWDER SUPPLEMENTATION
Pearl powder is a concentrated source of:
- Calcium
- Magnesium
- Silica (great for hair, skin, and nails)
- Trace minerals including manganese, selenium, and copper
- Amino acids
In various animal and human studies, pearl powder is shown to have anti-inflammatory, collagen-producing, and wound healing effects (2, 3, 4).
Pearl powder increases antioxidant levels and glutathione levels (a powerful detoxifying substance) in the body (5). This may partly account for the âage-reversingâ properties long-attributed to pearl powder.
Pearl powder supplementation is frequently used to support:
- Improved eyesight
- Calming anxious thoughts
- Improved sleep
- Improved skin (collagen production, acne relief, smoother texture)
- Hair quality (growth and luster)
- Nails (growth and strength)
- Teeth health
- Bone health
- Digestive wellbeing and bowel regularity
- Wound healing
Here is a small sampling of what people have reported using Cultivate Elevate’s Pearl Powder. (These are some of the product reviews posted on their pearl powder supplements).
PEARL POWDER FOR EYESIGHT
I started taking a 1/2 tsp in the morning and before bed. Within a week my eyes starting improving!! A great product and highly recommend!!
I recently discovered this from Cultivate Elevate. I have a double astigmatism and have noticed a difference between my eyesight. Only been taking this pearl for a month. My vision is crisp and my eyes don’t struggle as much while reading. I’m going to order the bigger package to ensure I continue to help my eyes.Â
Improvement with my cataract issues for reading about 40%. Long distance about 10% in just 7 days.
I recently developed eye floaters. Almost concurrently (Divinely inspired?) I came across a discussion of Pearl Powder on Cultivate Elevate’s social media platform. What a blessing! I have experienced so far about a 70 percent improvement within a mere two weeks of taking the minimum amount suggested.. Thank you!
So here’s the deal… I’ve been faithfully, taking Pearl, daily in my coffee for 2.5 months as I write this. About a week ago, I noticed my floaters were gone. Like, 100% GONE. This was the biggest change I’ve seen since taking Pearl. So incredible.Â
PEARL POWDER for SKIN, HAIR, NAILS
As far as my nails go ~ they are growing like crazy and way less soft; the ridges are slowly starting to become less deep (I think this will take a while, but I have no doubt they will lessen to the point where they aren’t noticeable and, maybe, even go away). The number “11” in between my eyes ~ one was less deep then the other and it is barely noticeable.
I use it on my teeth, my skin and add it to my coffee. I noticed a difference in my skin within a week, my skin was more plump and glowing! My hair and nails are looking much healthier too!Â
I love this stuff. I’m 63 and I have gotten my baby curls back again. No more dry hair. My nails are so much healthier too.
I purchased pearl powder and capsules, and use both daily. The freckles and little âage spotsâ I had are gone- just not there anymore. The product is wonderful. I also sleep better and wake with more energy.
PEARL POWDER FOR MOOD AND SLEEP
Pearl powder is Amazing!!! If you are searching out an effective anxiety treatment that does not have side effects⌠Pearl powder just might be the answer. I call it my super shen beauty dust! Helps me feel calm, relaxed and positive đ Skin and hair are looking better and better and I’m sleeping through the night for the first time in years đ
Just got my second order of the Pearl. Definitely feeling the differences in my sleep quality. Even if I get a short night sleep from staying up too late I still wake up feeling like I slept for a full 8 hours.
Life changing before bed. I’ve always been a light sleeper, but pearl has helped so much.Â
HOW TO SUPPLEMENT WITH PEARL POWDER
Pearl powder has a consistency resembling cornstarch, and contributes no flavor when added to beverages. It does add a slightly cloudy color to the beverage.
- Recommended dose is 1/2 teaspoon of pearl powder, once or twice a day.
- Stir it into hot coffee or tea.
- Pearl powder dissolves best into hot liquids, not cool liquids or smoothies.Â
I add pearl powder into my coffee every morning. The Cultivate Elevate brand dissolves best out of any other pearl powder Iâve tried.
Still, it is normal for some small white clumps to sink to the bottom of your beverage. Simply stir up your beverage before drinking the dregs, to get all the goodness.
HOW TO USE PEARL POWDER FOR SKINCARE
When I started adding pearl powder back into my skincare routine, I thought, âHow did I forget how amazing this is?â The cosmetic effects are immediate, as it offers a velvety, soft finish. Within a week, my skin looked brighter and smoother.
To use pearl powder in your skincare, put a dab of your skin cream or face oil into the palm of your hand along with a dab (maybe 1/8th tsp?) of pearl powder. Pearl powder will dissolve into any oil or cream-based skincare product.
Use your finger to combine it, then apply as usual.
HOW TO USE PEARL POWDER AS MAKEUP
Iâm pretty minimalist with my makeup now, but when Iâm in the mood for a powdered-finish to my skin, I use pearl powder! I use an empty cosmetics jar which I filled with pearl powder. Then I dip a powder brush into the powder (lightly!) and dust the powder on my face. It leaves a matte but natural finish.
If you go really heavy on the pearl powder, it can leave a white finish to the skin. I have fair skin, so I donât notice a color difference using a small amount of pearl powder topically.

Iâve stopped using pearl powder due to heavy metal concerns
Hi! I understand your concern, and that’s why I don’t buy pearl powder from many sources. Cultivate Elevate does heavy metal testing, and will provide test results if you email them at support@cultivateelevate.com đ
