In 2019, the the FDA, i.e. the Fraud and Deception Agency, published an article warning people not to drink chlorine dioxide, also known as MMS. The article says that chlorine dioxide is a strong chemical “that is used as bleach,” and is “the active ingredients in disinfectants and have additional industrial uses. They are not meant to be swallowed by people.”
Given that lemon juice, vinegar, and even sunlight can be used as bleach and disinfectants, in industrial uses, this warning is meaningless. Plus, anything consisting of matter is technically a chemical.
What’s the truth behind this substance? Is MMS an effective home remedy, or an industrial cleaning chemical… or both?
WHAT IS CHLORINE DIOXIDE (MMS)?
MMS is a term coined by Jim Humble, which stands for Master Mineral Solution. MMS is chlorine dioxide, a chemical compound that deactivates poisons and pathogens in the body.
Chlorine dioxide results from combining a solution of sodium chlorite and food grade acid. The two components are kept separate and combined just before use, which activates the chlorine dioxide.
MMS has been used for decades as a safe water purification solution, and a disinfectant solution. In 1996, Jim discovered that MMS could be safely used internally to treat malaria, with seemingly miraculous results.
He then began popularizing MMS for use with other illnesses and ailments, and now there are testimonials of people who have used MMS to address:
- Autoimmune diease
- Bacterial infections (UTI’s, sinus infections, antibiotic-resistant infections, etc.)
- Illnesses typically associated with viruses including Lyme disease, HIV, plantar warts, herpes, covid (see my note at the bottom of the post regarding viruses)
- Wound healing
People have also successfully used MMS to address their pet’s ailments, as well.
A list of testimonials and additional MMS resources can be found at The Universal Antidote Telegram channel.
HOW DOES CHLORINE DIOXIDE (MMS) WORK?
In his book, MMS Health Recovery Guidebook, Jim explains the basic concept of using chlorine dioxide for wellness:
The FDA regulations specify that chlorine dioxide and calcium hypochlorite can be used in public water systems to purify the water, and chlorine dioxide is used to preserve vegetables, meat and other items. The human body on an average is 60-75% water. It stands to reason that chlorine dioxide can also purify the water in the body just as it does in public water systems. Once the water of the body is purified, and many of the poisons oxidized, the body can then heal the body.
Specifically, chlorine dioxide oxidizes pathogens and poisons in the body. Jim explains:
“Oxidation either removes or changes the position of electrons that hold things together. This either completely destroys the substances or changes them into something else.”
Stephanie Seneff, PhD, explores the potential ways chlorine dioxide benefits the body at WestonPrice.org. She explains that chlorine dioxide can break down glyphosate, the toxic poison found in Round-Up. Glyphosate is linked to cancer, autism, and other chronic and acute illnesses.
She also explains:
“Both hypochlorite and superoxide (another CD breakdown product) are common oxidizing agents naturally produced by immune cells in their fight against pathogens. Thus CD enables the immune cells to be more effective in fighting pathogens in the gut.”
HOW DO I GET STARTED WITH MMS?
The standard resource on MMS is Jim Humble’s Health Recovery Guidebook. I recommend reading the whole book, but if you need immediate support, and want to dive in to using the remedy, start with page 19 – safety precautions.
This covers some general points such as:
- Don’t put MMS down a drain if you have a septic tank
- MMS can cancel out the effects of birth control pills (the pill is toxic anyway, and I recommend cycle tracking instead)
- Don’t drink undiluted MMS (duh!)
- Don’t get undiluted MMS on your skin; it can cause burns
Then, you can jump to page 79 – Key Protocols. It explains how to gradually build up to taking 1 dose each 8 hours of the day.
Gradually build up to taking larger doses of MMS, to minimize the die-off effects (also called a Herxheimer reaction). Your body will be killing pathogens, which release poisons into the bloodstream and cause some unpleasant symptoms such as nausea, diarrhea, or skin breakouts.
You might be familiar with this experience if you’ve done a gut-healing protocol such as The GAPS Diet, which introduces beneficial bacteria and starves unhealthy pathogens from the refined sugars they need to survive.
If the “die-off reactions” are making you feel worse than the illness you’re trying to treat, Jim says:
“Reduce your MMS intake by half. If these symptoms continue, then continue to reduce by one half until you are no longer feeling worse than your illness is making you feel. Then when Herxheimer symptoms (nausea, diarrhea, etc.) subside, build back up slowly to the proper dosage as per the protocol you are on, but not to the point of making yourself feel worse than your illness is already making you feel.”
High antioxidant foods and supplements can negate the oxidizing effects of MMS. Don’t take the following items within 2 hours of taking MMS. If you are doing your MMS protocol for the first 8 hours of the day, for example, you can take supplements and herbal tea in the evening:
Chocolate, coffee, decaffeinated coffee, caffeinated drinks, black and herbal tea, coconut water, orange juice, any drinks with added Vitamin C, supplements, high-antioxidant foods such as moringa.
HOW DO YOU TAKE CHLORINE DIOXIDE?
Chlorine Dioxide requires two liquid components: sodium chlorite (called the “mineral solution”) and liquid food grade acid (called the “activator solution”).
- Put a drop of the mineral solution in a clean glass, and put a drop of the activator solution directly on that. That constitutes “1 drop.”
- Wait about 30 seconds, until the liquid becomes amber in color.
- Add 8 oz. purified or distilled water, and drink it.
Note: Make sure to add purified or distilled water, not just filtered water. Any other minerals in the water can react with the MMS to reduce its potency. I purchase distilled water for this process.
Depending on your chosen protocol, you will take 1/4 to 1 drop or more at a time.
To take less than a drop, you mix up the 1 drop, add water, and pour off some water. For example, you would dilute 1 drop with 8oz. water, pour off 4oz, and drink the remaining 4oz to take 1/2 a drop.
MAKE MMS INGREDIENTS AT HOME
Here is an instructional video showing you how to make the two components.
PURCHASE PRE-MADE MMS SOLUTIONS
The first time I used MMS, I made the components. Now, I find it much easier to purchase the pre-made solutions. Here are two options:
- Chlorine Dioxide solutions at Amazon
- MMS solutions at MMS-Supplement.com (I have purchased this one before, I believe it ships from Australia)
MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE WITH CHLORINE DIOXIDE (MMS)
Protocol 1000 – I first used the Protocol 1000 two years ago. I wasn’t experiencing any chronic/acute health issues at the time, and I was interested in general immune system support (preventing colds/flus).
Mid-way through the protocol, when I was up to 3/4 drop per hour with 8 doses a day, I started experiencing some severe acne breakouts and stomach cramping as a die-off reaction. I backed off to 1/2 drop. I also used the topical solution outlined in Jim’s book to see if that would help the acne, but it didn’t.
I’m glad I started with the Protocol 1000, because when I would later use MMS for more acute treatments, I was able to tolerate larger doses of it with minimal die-off symptoms.
Recurrent UTI’s – I wasn’t prone to recurring urinary tract infections until I took an antibiotic the first time I got one… unfortunately a common story.
I’ve had success addressing UTI’s with MMS. Upon the initial symptoms, I take 4 drops of MMS, and then 2 – 3 drops a few hours later, repeating until symptoms are relieved. Then, I will take a few drops MMS before bed for a few days, to prevent symptoms from flaring back up.
Here are testimonials of how other people treat UTI’s with MMS.
Cold/flu prevention — I haven’t had a flu/cold since having MMS in my life. When I feel like I might be coming down with something, I take 1 – 2 drops of MMS before bed for a few days, and my symptoms improve rather than getting more severe.
I’m glad to have MMS in my “back pocket” for immune support, infections, and potential emergency uses.
Even if you don’t need immediate health support, it’s worth the time learning about MMS and having the MMS solutions on hand.
LONG TERM MMS USE?
As I’ve already addressed my previous chronic health conditions with nutrition and lifestyle, I only use MMS short-term for acute conditions, such as infections.
Chlorine dioxide helps your body deal with toxins and the pathogens that results from those toxins. To heal, one must address those toxins. Long-term healing, however, requires creating an environment where you’re not longer poisoning yourself, and where you supporting a parasympathetic (calm and relaxed) state of your nervous system. Then, MMS and other detox solutions become less necessary.
*A NOTE ON VIRUSES*
I’m no stranger to publicizing “paradigm shifts” when it comes to unquestioned ideas about health. If I’ve learned anything from a decade as a health researcher, it’s this: the mainstream perspective about health and illness is wrong, and that’s why so many people are sick.
Here’s the most recent paradigm shift I’ve been processing… the fact that we actually don’t know if viruses create illness! Scientists have never successfully isolated a virus and shown that viruses are contagious and create illness. Many researchers now believe viruses may be the byproduct of cellular detox processes.
This is a major deep-dive topic! Two resources to get started are Debunking The Nonsense presentation (best for laypeople) and A Farewell to Virology (best for those with a medical/science background).
People tend to think MMS improves health by killing viruses. If viruses don’t actually create illness, it’s possible we don’t know the exact “mechanism-of-action” behind MMS. That certainly doesn’t negate the positive (and even life-changing) experiences people have had with MMS.
This is just one more reminder that there is a lot we don’t know we don’t know, especially in the field of health science 😉
