I’m a DIY beauty convert
I need a warning sign in my bathroom cabinet and in the shower that reads: Warning! Bottles and Jars Do Not Contain the Products Listed on the Labels!
After all, since going full-out hippie in my body care, I keep homemade baking soda shampoo and cider vinegar hair rinse in my old shampoo and conditioner bottles (update: now it is my DIY honey shampoo!). My medicine cabinet which used to store a myriad of expensive, “natural” skincare products now houses my homemade facial oil, toner, and oil cleanser.
Why am I hooked on these homemade alternatives? Well, I save a boatload of money by using simple ingredients for my body care routine. Most importantly, it means I am not dousing my face and body with toxic chemicals responsible for cancer, allergies, infertility, and birth defects. Finally, when you have access to meticulously tested recipes, DIY beauty solutions work. But I don’t like testing and re-testing a soap recipe to get the perfect lather. So, as you can imagine, I was more than ecstatic when Heather launched her DIY Organic Beauty Recipes book.
Why DIY Organic Beauty Recipes?
You’ll find recipes, photographs, and even video tutorials for homemade shampoos, conditioners, tooth care, lotions, soaps, soaks, scrubs, perfumes, deodorant, bug sprays, sun care, and makeup! Additionally, Heather shares valuable information about storing and extending the shelf-life of your creations and customizing the product for your skin type.
This guide provides the perfect starting point if you are new to homemade skin and body products. But the extensive recipe list will offer new projects and ideas even if you are already passionate about DIY beauty.
Additionally, these DIY recipes come just in time for homemade holiday gifts. A scrub and lotion bar combination, for example, is a luxurious treat for any woman on your list!
Most importantly, Heather has sifted through the slew of DIY internet recipes and she came to an important conclusion… many are a waste of your time and money:
I’ve spent hundreds and hundreds and of dollars (Shh! Don’t tell the hubs!) testing recipes I found on Pinterest, websites and in beauty books. It’s surprising how many simply don’t work. They seem plausible. There’s no obvious reason they wouldn’t work . . . and yet the finished product is disappointing or even flat out unusable.
Every single recipe in DIY Organic Beauty has been tested, tweaked and perfected by Heather. With more than 50 fail-proof recipes, this resource provides all you need to DIY your beauty routine!
Thanks for posting this Lauren – I just purchased the e-book and am excited to begin making my own beauty products.
