Did you know that anxiety and depression are not caused by chemical imbalances, but a spiritual imbalance?
This may seem like a heretical — and even dangerous — suggestion in a world that has medicalized “mental health.” In reality, our cultural ideas of anxiety and depression are radically backwards and dangerous.
Consider my story, for example:
I was prescribed antidepressants at age 12.
At the time, I was anorexic, lonely, and trapped in a psychically-poisonous household due to my parent’s emotionally destructive marriage.
In hindsight, it appears absolutely obvious that my 12-year-old-self didn’t need anti-feaking-depressants — I needed spiritual guidance.
I needed help in processing emotions that felt altogether too vast and overwhelming for my psyche. I needed help in understanding that those emotions weren’t a problem, but valuable insight into the extreme dysfunction present in my society, family, and the medical system in which I sought help.
THE MYTH OF CHEMICAL IMBALANCES
Before we discuss the underlying cause of anxiety/depression, we first have to debunk the myth of chemical imbalances in the brain, which can be addressed with drugs that alter neurotransmitter levels.
Many people believe this myth not because it’s true, but because it’s had phenomenal PR campaign. Tobacco company executives in the 1950’s would be jealous!
Doctors prescribe antidepressants and antianxiety drugs today the same way they recommended cigarettes in the 1930’s, or amphetamines in the 1960’s, or Vioxx in the 1990’s… not based on real science, but based on pharmaceutically-funded, cherrypicked studies branded as “science.”
To give the briefest summary (here is a more detailed analysis I wrote), antidepressants and antianxiety drugs perform no better than placebo, and consistently correlate to worse mental health outcomes in the long term. There is no viable evidence linking these issues to neurotransmitter imbalances… in fact, we don’t have evidence that these “mental health” issues even originate in the brain!
Rather than correcting neurotransmitter levels, these drugs create neurotransmitters imbalances in your brain. These imbalances may feel preferable to some people. It may feel useful to be numbed out and less attached to your pain. That doesn’t mean that state is actually helpful or empowering, though.
Decades overdue, mainstream media and mainstream psychology admitted their error with 2022 headlines in MSN and Psychology Today stating, “Depression Is Not Caused By A Chemical Imbalance in the Brain.“
SPIRITUAL HELPLESSNESS: THE REAL EPIDEMIC
Beyond being signs of nutrient/movement/sunlight deficiencies, anxiety/depression are a SPIRITUAL SYMPTOM.
When you feel anxious, consider the thoughts you experience. Often, they’re thoughts like:
- “I am out of control in this situation,”
- “I’m not safe,”
- “I don’t have control over what happens in the future,”
- “I can’t ensure a safe or comfortable environment for myself.”
In other words, they are thoughts of powerlessness. You believe you aren’t okay, or aren’t going to be okay, because you lack power over your circumstances.
When you feel depressed, what are the thoughts you experience? It might be things like:
- “I have no hope for the future,”
- “No one loves, sees me or listens to me,”
- “I am trapped by misery; the future will be as dark as the present.”
Again, the underlying theme is a story of powerlessness. You feel powerless to your present circumstances, future events, and your emotional state.
When you recognize that story of powerlessness, that can be the TURNING POINT!
You can realize, “Wow, I must be pretty disconnected from God [Spirit/Divine Creator/Love if I feel this way. How do I reconnect?”
Anxiety and depression are symptoms telling you to get closer to God — in other words, to step into your deepest spiritual power, which is your direct connection to God.
Here’s what I’ve come to learn on my journey to heal from chronic illness, anxiety, and trauma many other people labeled as “incurable”:
If you let God/Love work through you, everything inside and around you will be healed.
And if everything inside and around you is not healed, that’s because you’ve been shutting out God/Love this whole time.
Let that sink in, if you need to.
Anxiety and depression aren’t chemical imbalances; they are choices. They are nutritional choices, exercise choices, lifestyle choices, relationship choices, and belief choices.
Most of all, they are spiritual choices.
They reflect the choice to remain ignorant of the power of your consciousness. Anxiety and depression simply cannot coexist in a person who is using their consciousness to intentionally create their desired reality.
When I say consciousness, I’m talking about your subconscious beliefs, your mindset, and your vibrational state. These aspects determine how you experience reality, and what reality you experience.
When we understand how to change our circumstances with our consciousness, there is no need to feel anxious or depressed.
When we realize our capacity to heal any trauma or unhealthy pattern, there is no need to feel trapped by our current circumstances and relationships.
When we realize our power to amend past circumstances through love and forgiveness, there is no need to feel depressed about life events.
When we realize our spiritual power to draw in soulmate partners/friendships/colleagues, there is no need to feel lonely or isolated.
When we realize our capacity to experience abundance out of thin air (I’m talking loaves-and-fishes miracles, honey!) there is no need to feel helpless about global or economic events.
Anxiety and depression are spiritual choices, and that’s the good news. It means that at anytime, you can make a different choice.
You can say, “You know what? I’d like to change my story of powerlessness to a story of power. I’d like to change my story of helplessness to a story of helpfulness.”
I’ll tell you how to do that, but first let’s revisit 12-year-old Lauren.
FROM EMOTIONAL HELL TO TRUE POWER
So there I am, at 12 years old, with a new antidepressant prescription.
After a week of taking the pills, I stopped them — by Divine grace, I believe. I couldn’t bring myself to swallow the pills. I sensed they were separating me from my essential self, and it absolutely terrified my soul. This terror seemed to shock me into enough temporary sanity to avoid the antidepressants.
Without the numbing drugs, I realized the only way out of my emotional hell was my power to change my relationships, beliefs, habits, and environment.
It began in little ways, finding the power to make different communication choices than my pain-filled family lineage. It developed into the power of trusting my intuition, which allowed me to heal my “incurable” disease — then help others do the same.
It grew into the power to opt-out of the social, educational, and 9-5 career programing, and create financial freedom and a fulfilling career for myself. It snowballed into the power to speak truth in untruthful environments — from whistleblowing the rampant sexual abuse in my nutrition school, to discussing the plandemic and transhuman agenda.
In summary: due to the catalyst of crippling emotional pain, I developed the power to be myself.
This, truly, is the ultimate and permanent cure for anxiety and depression. It’s a cure you can experience for yourself.

I do believe that the pills are not helpful in the long run. But, trauma and abuse do change a persons physiology. The brain feels unsafe and starts to put out stress chemicals. I do have faith in God Almighty and Jesus is my savior. I pray continually for my health and others. I don’t have safe people in my life. I’m always n in fight or flight mode.
I lost my 2 best friends last yr. due to cancer. Grief changes chemistry too. I don’t think the whole issue is black and white. I’m glad you found your truth and are attempting to help people. Each case is different. Gods best to you.
Hi Mary! You’re right that trauma influences a person’s stress hormones (cortisol/adrenaline — different than neurotransmitters targeted by antidepressants). And these hormones fluctuate based on our beliefs, values, environments, and perceptions. Trauma can absolutely put a person into chronic flight-or-flight, and there are many non-pharmaceutical resources to address that (including the major belief changes I discussed in this article). It can seem like an overwhelming paradigm shift to entertain the concept that chemical imbalances don’t create anxiety/depression. It probably flies in the face of what your doctor told you.
