Whether you are following a grain free diet such as the Paleo diet or simply want healthier options for desserts, you’ll love the recipes in Indulge and Heal.
Indulge and Heal features:
- Over 40 grain free recipes without dairy, nuts or refined sugar
- Appealing recipe photos
- Recipes suitable for the Paleo, SCD and GAPS Diets. Many are also suitable for the Autoimmue Paleo Protocol
- An Egg Free Recipe Index – more than half of the recipes are egg free
- Recipes exclusive to the book as well as select reader favorite recipes from Lauren’s popular website, Empowered Sustenance
Why skip the almond flour?
Almond flour contains numerous anti-nutrient properties such as enzyme inhibitors and omega-6 fatty acids. The baking recipes in Indulge ad Heal use primarily coconut flour, the healthiest flour avaiable. While most of the recipes are seed free as well as nut free, a couple of the recipes use sunflower seeds.
What about the SCD and GAPS Diets?
All the recipes are suitable for the later stages of GAPS Diet, when baked goods and larger amounts of honey can be introduced. All recipes except the few containing cocoa powder fit into SCD. (The Ginger, Sweet Potato and Apple Pudding is not GAPS or SCD, because it contains sweet potato. Pumpkin pureé can be substituted for the sweet potato to accommodate the diets.)
I just wanted to tell you how much I love your e-book Indulge and Heal. I bought it on a whim and couldn’t be happier with every recipe I’ve made from it. My kids have nut allergies and it’s often difficult to find Paleo treats without almond flour. I have wanted to transition them away from a gluten-based diet, but it was difficult with their allergies – and they’re kids so they like their treats and breakfast baked foods. Your book has helped me clean up their (and my husband’s!) diets. Thank you! – An Indulge and Heal reader

About the Author: Lauren Geertsen, NTP
I never planned to write three books on health and nutrition before I graduated college. I never planned to start Empowered Sustenance, an alternative health website that would be read by over 7 million people in its two years of existence. I never planned to become a nutritional therapist (NTP) and wake up each day with the mission to change the way the world thinks about food.
But I also never planned to be diagnosed with an autoimmune disease when I was 14. Or be told at age 18 that, to continue my life, I would need invasive surgery and a lifetime of potent medications.
I refused to believe the doctors who told me that surgery and medications were my only options for my chronic health conditions. Instead, I threw myself into researching nutrition and mind-body medicine.
By renovating my diet and lifestyle, I began a new chapter in my life without the threat of surgery or medications. And even though my diet has some new food restrictions, I’m now enjoying the most delicious foods I’ve ever prepared.
